Which DoorKing Models This Applies To

DoorKing swing gate operators, particularly the 6000-series and 9000-series, put repeated torque through the hinge brackets, the arm mounting plates, and the gate frame itself. The weldments we fabricate and repair most often are the operator mounting brackets, gate hinge plates, and the leaf frame corners on tubular steel gates. On a DoorKing installation, the bracket that connects the operator arm to the gate leaf is usually the first thing to crack, because DoorKing arms are shorter and stiffer than most, so they transfer more force into the bracket on every cycle. Identifying your specific part means checking the tag on the operator (the model number is stamped on the side of the cabinet), then measuring the gate thickness and post diameter, because a 6000-series bracket will not interchange with a 9000-series without re-drilling the mounting plate. One compatibility gotcha we see often: DoorKing’s older 9000-series used a bolt-on steel bracket, while the newer 6000-series ships with an aluminum bracket that cannot be welded, only replaced. If your original part is cast aluminum, do not let anyone weld it; the repair is a new fabricated steel bracket, and we make ours from 1/4-inch or 3/8-inch plate, cut and drilled to match the original bolt pattern. Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• A visible crack in the operator arm bracket. This is the most common failure point. The crack usually starts at the top or bottom edge of the plate and runs toward the bolt hole, and you’ll see a thin rust line forming along the crack before it opens up.
• The gate sags on the hinge side. When a hinge plate weld fractures, the leaf drops by a half-inch or more, the gate scrapes the driveway in Camarillo’s coastal heat, and the operator has to lift the weight on every open cycle.
• The operator faults out or stops mid-cycle. A broken weld lets the arm flex or bind, which trips the force-sensing circuit on the DoorKing board. You’ll see a fault code, but the root cause is mechanical, not electronic.
• The gate rattles or bangs when it reaches the open or closed limit. A cracked weld at the frame corner changes the gate’s natural frequency, so the leaf shudders instead of stopping cleanly.
